Congratulations to ASU students Brittany and Chelsea who were the big winners in Saturday night’s Brad Paisley/St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance Food Drive prior to Paisley’s concert at Cricket Pavilion.
Fans braved record 109-degree temperatures not only to check out one of country music’s hottest superstars but fight hunger in Arizona. More than 1,100 pounds of non-perishable food and water was collected from fans, 127 pounds of it from Brittany and Chelsea – who not only won fifth-row tickets to the show but a meet-and-greet with their favorite singer (and a quick picture, above) before his set.
During the concert, Brittany and Chelsea were able to walk up to the stage with other fans.
“At one point during the show, he kneeled down right in front of me and played a guitar solo, and everyone was putting their hands up,” Chelsea said. “I put mine up too, right in front of Brad, and after he was done with the song he handed me his guitar pick!”
Fans also donated $800 in cash to volunteers stationed outside the gates – with each dollar allowing St. Mary’s to provide enough food for seven meals in the community. All told with cash and food, more than 6,500 meals were provided during the event.
St. Mary’s would like thank Brad Paisley’s H2O Tour, Live Nation, our great volunteers from Phoenix Philanthropists, Brittany, Chelsea and all those who donated both food and cash to the Food Bank. It was a great night of music and a great chance to raise awareness of Arizona’s hunger fight.
