PHOENIX – A Phoenix food bank is cleaning up thousands of dollars in damage after severe weather destroyed parts of its warehouse and food supplies on Tuesday.
St. Mary’s Food Bank told ABC15 it may have suffered more than $100,000 in damage after hail broke several dozen skylights, letting the rain pour onto thousands of pounds of food.
The food bank is located near 31st Avenue and Thomas, an area hard hit by the storm.
A spokesperson for St. Mary’s said they can provide seven meals for every $1 donated. They are looking for help to recover after the violent storm.
**Update: Estimate of over $200,000 worth of damage done to building and its food contents. We are figuring around a 20% food loss due to this storm. If $1 = 7 meals, then we have lost the equivalent of 1.4 million meals that won’t be going out into the community.**
