TRADER JOE’S TO MAKE TURKEY DONATION TO ST. MARY’S FOOD BANK TO ENSURE HOLIDAY FOOD BOXES WILL BE FULL FOR THANKSGIVING
St. Mary’s Sees Record Crowds Seeking Food During Holiday Distribution; Donations of Turkeys, Holiday Food Items Needed to Meet Huge Demand
Phoenix, AZ – Responding to a public plea because turkey supplies are dwindling, long-time St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance donor Trader Joe’s announced they will donate 6,000 roasted half turkeys Tuesday to assure those who receive holiday emergency food boxes this week will enjoy the comfort of a complete holiday meal. The 6,000 turkeys will be able to feed about 20,000 people.
St. Mary’s has already distributed more than 4,000 Holiday Food Boxes since Friday and the Food Bank was already more than 2,000 turkeys shy of its Thanksgiving goal before Trader Joe’s announced its timely and generous gift. Trader Joe’s personnel will deliver the turkeys to St. Mary’s Del E. Webb Distribution Center at noon today.
Trader Joe’s has been a strong supporter of St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance, serving as a turkey donation site during the holidays, taking part in its food rescue program and even partnering with the Phoenix Suns in “Hoops Against Hunger” to make a donation to St. Mary’s for every 3-point basket in previous years.
“St. Mary’s would like to sincerely thank Trader Joe’s for stepping up and making sure all hungry Arizonans that visit the Food Bank will go home with a turkey in their Holiday Food Box,” St. Mary’s President and CEO Terry Shannon said. “We have seen unprecedented demand in the past week which has exceeded even the generous donations of the public. Thanks to this delivery of 6,000 turkeys, we will be able to serve the record numbers we are seeing.”
