WILL STUART SEE HIS SHADOW ON THIS GROUNDHOG DAY? STAY TUNED…

Punxsutawney Phil has emerged from his home in Gobbler’s Knob on this Groundhog Day 2011 and did not see his shadow – predicting an early spring just around the corner. And while we don’t have a groundhog at the Food Bank, our own mascot and for-legged hunger fighter – St.Mary’s Stuart the guinea pig – reminds you that an early spring likely means a quick return to higher temperatures and the need for emergency food and water will be on the rise.

Stuart is a late sleeper – as of 9:30 a.m. he had still not emerged from his edible tree stump – and it’s still mighty cold here in Phoenix by Arizona standards. But we will keep you posted on his activity today and if he sees his shadow when he eventually squeezes out of his home.
